This Is Spinal TapMuch like ‘The Rocky Horror Picture Show’ or any film starring Steve Martin but directed by Carl Reiner, the appearance of Rob Reiner’s first feature film ‘This Is Spinal Tap’ is an extremely well intended but versatile and brilliant film. The release of such an important work, however, will possibly only make you laugh if you’ve never encountered it before.

Once the jokes are understood, repeated viewing of ‘This Is Spinal Tap’ becomes arduous and non-flourishing. As a re-release, ‘This Is Spinal Tap’ is a film not to be missed at all.

Like father like son
It could be argued that Rob Reiner’s direction was heavily inspired by the work of his father Carl Reiner, who managed to direct films such as ‘The Man With Two Brains’, ‘Dead Men Don’t Wear Plaid’ and the excellent ‘All of Me’, with such panache and brilliance that the jokes were completely inspired.

However, ‘This Is Spinal Tap’ on DVD has some inspired moments. Yet is extremely drawn-out and repetitive, with only the reel of out-takes being a case of understanding, rather than funny.

Watch it over and over again
There are a number of benefits to viewing ‘This Is Spinal Tap’ as there are with American cult films such as ‘The Blues Brothers’ or even ‘Repo Man’, which are that they are the gateway to a large amount of near hysterical cinematic moments.

Much like ‘Animal House’ or ‘An American Werewolf In London,’ there is a blending together of both seriousness and accurate lines that portray almost staggering originality. ‘This Is Spinal Tap’ is still fresh and beneficial regarding the connections that continue from simply one feature film.

If you feel that your sense of humour should be taken more seriously, then allow your mentality to be over-ridden by this nugget at least once.
