Isle of Wight Cabinet members voted through amended proposals for Island libraries tonight.
In a change to the previous proposals, another £50,000 was thrown into the pot, but it still meant that only Newport, Ryde, Sandown, Ventnor, Cowes and Freshwater would remain under the control of the Isle of Wight council.
Cllr George Brown told the meeting that the changes to the library service would save £236,000 per annum.
According to Cllr Brown, the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) will be keeping an eye on the Island, using it as a “case study for community engagement”.
