At the end of the month a new exhibition takes place at Quay Arts. Island based painter, Lisa Traxler will present her solo show in The Rope Store Gallery.
‘As the painting evolves a subconscious takes over pulling me to a place where I am merely operator of the paint – it’s journey flowing, scraping, scratched and hurled, covered, uncovered – applied with brush, stick and hands – often mixing colours with my fingers on the canvas itself to achieve tone and light that is requested and required.
What is underneath the ‘finished’ canvas is as much about it as the top visual layer – it’s representational journey has been colourful and eventful, fear of itself has not held it back.’ Lisa Traxler
I look forward to seeing in person, the paintings Lisa says are inspired by conversation, emotion, landscape and nature. I have seen some of her work before and her interpretations are well worth heading up to Newport for.
The exhibition runs from Saturday 30 June to Saturday 11 August. There will be a drinks reception on Saturday 7 July between 2-4 pm when you’ll have a chance to meet the artist in person.
