The Wight Strollers have made their 14th Public Access Defibrillator (PAD) donation following the success of their most recent pantomime, Snow White in February earlier this year.
Thanks to their efforts The Yarbridge Inn, in Brading now has a PAD available to the local community 24/7.
Greatly increases chance of survival
Having a PAD available 24/7 is a lifesaving piece of equipment that can greatly increase someone’s chance of survival from a cardiac arrest. In the event of a cardiac arrest, it’s vital someone calls 999 for the ambulance service and follows the instructions given to Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
PADs can be safely used without training, as when applied to the casualty’s bare chest the device analyses their heart rhythm and will only shock if required.
Walker: We are so very grateful for their donation
Head of Education and Community Response at the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service, Louise Walker said,
“When a person suffers an out of hospital cardiac arrest their chance of survival decreases by around 10% with every minute that defibrillation is delayed, which is why community public access defibrillators are so valuable.
“The Wight Strollers consistent commitment to providing public access defibrillators is truly incredible and so much appreciated. This is now the 14th donation they have made; on behalf of the Isle of Wight NHS Trust Ambulance Service and the community we are so very grateful for their donation.”
Fox: We do not underestimate the value of having this life saving device available
Speaking of their new piece of equipment, Rosie Fox from the Yarbridge Inn team said,
“We are delighted to house a 24/7 Public Access Defibrillator for our local community and are also grateful for the training recently received from Duncan of the Ambulance Training and Community Response Services (ATCoRS).
“Although we hope to never have to use it, we do not underestimate the value of having this life saving device available and accessible in case a member of the public needs it.”

Director of the recent Snow White production, Elisa Jones said,
“The audience feedback from ‘Snow White’ has been incredible. It is amazing to see everyone enjoying the show and having such a good time.
“Knowing the support that our proceeds give to Island charities; learning how these funds will be used reminds us again just what we do it all for. We are over the moon to have been able to donate our 14th defibrillator!
“These devices can be life changing and we are so lucky to have Louise guiding us along the way, advising and offering training to anyone that will take it! To anyone that supported, donated, or bought tickets… Thank you!”

The Wight Strollers are already preparing for their next production, Sweet Charity that will be playing at The Medina Theatre from the 12th to 14th July.
