Thanks to Tim Marshall for sending through details of a new scheme named, LocALe which is designed to encourage the sale of locally brewed beers in local pubs.
A similar scheme has been running successfully in the Nottingham area over the last year and they have over 70 pubs who have taken part.
Tim tells us that some of the advantages of the campaign include:
* The local economy benefits from the increased trade with local brewers
* The environment benefits as beers are delivered from breweries only a few miles away, rather than from breweries and depots possibly hundreds of miles away on the mainland
* Isle of Wight tourism benefits from a collective identity
* Landlords benefit. Tourists regularly want local produce and will seek out pubs that sell local beer.
How It Works
Participating pubs are given “point of sale” material including posters and pumpclips.
A list of participating pubs is published on the branch website, in the branch magazine Wightwash and any other supporting publications.
The scheme will be run by a sub-committee of the local branch consisting of David Yates (Yates’ Brewery), Xavier Baker (Ventnor Brewery), Chris Coleman (Goddards Brewery) and Tim Marshall (CAMRA).
Yet to be confirmed, but it is hoped that the scheme will be launched at the Bargeman’s Rest on Monday 3rd March at 5.30pm.
We’ll let you know if we hear more.
