Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Scissors

A couple of weeks ago, Kelvin Rolf from Newport hairstylists, Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Scissors invited us in to try out the new salon at 92 High Street, Newport (tel: 530161).

Lock, Stock and Two Smoking ScissorsWe’d been past the salon a couple of times since it opened and had been meaning to pop in to nose around.

Contemporary styling
The black exterior with bright green accent colour complements the contemporary styling throughout the salon. Minimalism is a key feature, with the focus on hair-styling rather than unnecessary distraction of clutter.

The reception area has plenty of seating with a large screen TV and free WiFi to keep you occupied while waiting for your appointment. There’s tea or coffee on offer, but also a glass of wine, cold beer or something soft if you fancy that instead.

Lock, Stock and Two Smoking ScissorsOur experience
So taking up Kelvin’s offer, last week we rocked up to the joint, to see how well they faired against our favoured stylists at the other end of the High Street.

Men don’t need to make appointments at Lock, Stock (unless they’re having a colour done), but women do. Myself and our daughter (her first professional salon experience) were met by smiling faces and a friendly atmosphere.

Professional consultation
With The Kooks playing in the background (ACDC, The Maccabees, Soulwax, Band of Skulls, The XX also on the playlist) and the offer of drinks made, we were sat down for our consultations.

Lock, Stock and Two Smoking ScissorsBoth stylists listened carefully to what were looking for and made suggestions of how to achieve that. Once a plan of action was agreed, they got down to business.

The dark walls on the interior of the salon might seem a strange choice to some, but once you’re sitting at the workstation, the mirrors surrounded by theatre lights, the dark walls disappear and the focus is very much on you and your stylist.

Quality throughout
Both stylists are fully qualified and clearly experienced in providing the latest styling techniques.

As well as cuts, they also offer professional colouring, but do make sure you book this in advance.

Throughout the cut my stylist, Hannah, chatted away letting me know what she was doing, how she was styling different sections in a certain way, etc.

Naz has just joined the salon from Rush, the award winning UK Salon chain and has attended advance hair academies including the highly regarded Vidal Sassoon Academy in Chicago and the Rush Academy in London and has a wealth of experience in leading Salons.

Hannah has also attended lots of academies including Toni & Guy, and has worked in London after starting her career at Island Salon Jaks and again brings a wealth of experience and techniques to Lock Stock.

Lock, Stock and Two Smoking ScissorsThe end result was exactly what I was looking for, as was our daughters, who left the salon feeling very special.

What’s the pricing like?
The pricing at Lock Stock is highly competitive, £28 for a wash, cut and finish for ladies and just £12.50 for men.

They also offer lower prices for youth/students cuts and with a full range of on trend example cards to choose from.

We’ll definitely be going back to Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Scissors.

They were clear winners for us on the hairstyling front.
