Yesterday, OnTheWight ran a Letter to the Editor from a resident concerned at the sudden closure of Lower Road in Adgestone.
After the Letter was published, OnTheWight reader Jane Reed posted a comment to our Isle of Wight News Facebook page,
“Hubby phoned council and been told it may not be ever open, as too much work is needed and it will be too expensive, yet Skinners Hill the other way is nowhere so busy has just been resurfaced! Makes you wonder what goes on in their heads those who decide what roads to do and not do.”
Island Roads respond
A spokesperson on behalf of Island Roads, told OnTheWight,
“There has been a failure of the carriageway at Lower Adgestone Road which we are investigating to determine the root cause. Once this cause has been established, we will apply for road closures if they are required for the designed solution to be undertaken.
“In the meantime, for safety reasons, an emergency road closure has been put in place. As this is an unplanned emergency closure it has not been advertised.
“We apologise for any inconvenience and can assure residents that we are working to resolve the situation as soon as possible.
“If residents feel the signage is inadequate we will of course investigate this and review if appropriate.”
