From the 3 July meeting of the IW Council’s Scrutiny Committee, the spotlight will be turned onto individual members of the Council’s decision-making Executive.

Cllr Jon GilbeyAt each of the monthly meetings in future, the Committee will invite one Executive Member – starting with Cllr Jon Gilbey, Executive Member for Resources and PFI – to give a 10-minute presentation on the key budget and performance issues for their portfolio. This will be followed by a 15-minute question session by Scrutiny Committee members.

Committee Chair, Cllr Geoff Lumley said,

“This new initiative for my Committee is an attempt to really get into the nitty-gritty of what Executive Members are doing after a year in office. They already appear at our Committee to talk about upcoming decisions for the Executive, but this tries to look at their roles more strategically. I am optimistic that it will see a real shift in the quality of scrutiny, which had drifted for so long until the change of administration last year.”
