At the recent Annual Council meeting, leader of the council, Ian Stephens announced his new Executive Committee.
Cllr Jon Gilbey – formerly Cabinet member for Resources – was appointed as Executive Member for Finance and PFI Contracts.
OnTheWight put it to Cllr Ian Stephens that members of the public might find it difficult to understand how someone prepared to lie with great ease could be rewarded with a position on the Executive Committee (formerly the Cabinet) and given responsibility for Finance and PFI Contracts. Cllr Stephens replied,
“We’ve sorted it out and are moving forward in a positive way.”
Taken in hand
In an attempt to understand how – given his previous dishonest behaviour – the decision had been made to reward Cllr Gilbey with this new responsibility OnTheWight continued to question the Leader.
Cllr Stephens replied to OnTheWight,
“I have taken it in hand and spoken to him in private and it’s been dealt with.”
As the conversation went round in circles, it became obvious that Cllr Gilbey had faced nothing more than a slap on the wrist.
Stephens: “His talents are required”
OnTheWight asked why Cllr Gilbey had been chosen for that specific role, Finance and PFI Contract? Cllr Stephens replied,
“His talents are required for that portfolio at this time.”
Adding,
“He’s the best man for the job.”
