A secure dog walking and training facility could be coming to an Isle of Wight village… although neighbours are not so keen.
Plans have been submitted to the Isle of Wight Council to turn a former agricultural field in Newchurch into a dog paradise, by applicant Jenny Ware.

Known as Maddie’s Meadow, the land at West Meath Nursery on Winford Road, could become a safe space people can rent by the hour, so dogs can enjoy some freedom.
No permanent development would take place, allowing the field to be used as agricultural in the future if required, but fencing would be put up and a mobile field shelter installed.
A valuable addition to the dog walking community
In planning documents, Ms Ware says the easily accessible field set in the rural countryside would be a valuable addition to the dog walking community.
It will also be used for secure exercise and training for dogs that cannot ordinarily be let off the lead, as well as obedience and behaviour training.
The site would be open from 8am to 6pm in the summer and 8am to 5pm in the winter.
Ms Ware says it would bring no more noise to the area than footpath.
Local objections
Some Newchurch residents are not in favour of the plans and have submitted seven objections so far.
One said it would take away the privacy and peace from their house with another raising traffic concerns about the additional vehicle movements it would generate.
Would cause “disruption and nuisance”
Another said the facility would generate ‘significant noise’ from dogs and owners, causing disruption and nuisance, and said there are plenty of dog walking options in and around the village.
