Major outage on Wightfibre’s Full Fibre broadband

Before midday today, many who subscribed to WightFibre’s Full Fibre on the Isle of Wight will have found they had no Internet connection.

Support
Those who call WightFibre’s support line (01983 24 24 24) are met with a message apologising for the outage and slow response as there are so many calls coming into them. They then suggest checking the WightFibre Website for updates – perhaps not ideal for those who don’t have an Internet connection.

If you can get a signal on your mobile, the page to check is a little buried on their Website, but you can find it here on the Service Update page.

The current message is from 11:51am this morning and reads

“We are currently aware of an issue affecting a large number of customers broadband and telephone service.

Our network engineers are looking into the matter to identify the fault and resolve to bring customers back online. Further updates to follow.

We apologise for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience whilst we work on getting the service back up and running.

Kind Regards,

Wightfibre Customer Services.”

When will it be back up?
There is no time being given for when the fix will be completed, but News OnTheWight understands all WightFibre’s engineers are trying to get things fixed.

Dependent
As Wightfibre have been on a big marketing push to get as many Isle of Wight households to subscribe to their service, tempting them with broadband speeds of up to 900 Mbps, so now many of the Island’s Internet users are now without any access.

Many people now fully depend on their Internet connection for telephone and TV services, as well as the usual computer, tablet or mobile access.

Update
News OnTheWight approached WightFibre to get more details. Shortly after that the status page was updated with the following message:

“Our network engineers have identified and rectified the issue. Service is being restored and you should start seeing your connection come back online shortly.”

We then received :

“We identified a problem in our core network which was rapidly resolved. Services are coming back online and we hope everyone will be back online soon. This has been our 1st major outage in 5 years.”
