Primary schools on the Island are being given an opportunity to win prizes of up to £4,500 and a trip to the Houses of Parliament in a UK-wide technology competition called Make IT Happen.
Using technology combined with their imagination, creativity and technology skills they are being encouraged create productions describing how they would change an aspect of their community for the better.
Sounds like a very positive use of technology to us and given the ability for children to use technology, we’d imagine that the results will be pretty impressive.
Launching it on the Island, Andrew Turner said, “Make IT Happen calls on schools to use technology, such as audio-visual materials, web pages or interactive posters to to focus on an issue they really care about, such as tackling bullying or littering, helping to improve the environment or supporting their community.”
There’ll be 12 region competitions — including the South East — where £1,000 will be won by each of the winning school. In addition, £4,500, £2,500 and £1,500 will be awarded to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd placed schools UK-wide.
The organisations behind it are the Parliamentary Information Technology Committee (PITCOM), e-skills UK and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).
Those who want to get involved and get started, head over the Make IT Happen site. Entry have to be in by 13 July.
