Making Waves: Final Session Thursday Night

This Thursday night sees the very last Making Waves session take place at Ryde Theatre.

Making Waves: Final Session Thursday NightMaking Waves was the brainchild of those running The Development Suite. Regular readers of VentnorBlog will remember that back in December last year, they put an invitation out to all Island musicians to come forward and take advantage of a great opportunity.

That opportunity was to play on stage at Ryde Theatre, be recorded by IW Radio for later broadcast on the Live and Local Show and be interviewed by Glynn Taylor.

Many, many bands took advantage of this offer with Emily Jane and The Wild Oats kicking off the first session back at the beginning of April.

Since then, almost every two weeks has seen Island bands and musicians appear at Ryde Theatre. Punters have had to pay just £3 to get in and help support the Island music scene and the future of the theatre.

There are so many people who were involved in Making Waves, that we’re sure we’d miss someone out if we did a roll call – however, special congratulations should go to Rick Stanbridge. He’s the man with the passion and perseverance who has kept the opportunities for Island musicians going for so long.

Without Rick, it’s clear that Making Waves or The Development Suite sessions would never have happened.

You can show your support for the work that Rick, and all the other people involved, have put into the Island music scene by going along to the last session of Making Waves at Ryde Theatre this Thursday.

His band (well, one of many), The Chancers will be on stage warming up before their Bestival appearance on the bandstand on Friday afternoon at noon.

Sharing the stage will be previous Bestival Band Competition winners, Hugo Frusslinky

If you’re a musician you should attend the meeting beforehand with the Musicians Union, which will then get you free entry to the evening session.

Otherwise for all other punters, it’s just £3 to get in.

The party kicks off at 8pm and with the weather as it is now, why spend the night in a wet tent – get yourselves up to Ryde Theatre for your pre-Bestival party and just make sure you’re back on the camp site before midnight.
