Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was assaulted in the High Street, Ventnor at the weekend.
It’s believed the 27-year-old was punched once to the face and then fell to the ground, which left him with a fractured skull and bleed on his brain. He is currently being treated for his injuries at St Mary’s Hospital.
It happened around 2.30am on Sunday, 16 November.
Man arrested
A 23-year-old man was arrested in connection with the offence but has since been bailed until Friday, 19 December while enquiries continue.
Detective Constable Gillian Harvey said:
“We’re looking for anyone who may have seen this incident or the people involved just prior or after it.
“Assaults like this luckily remain rare on the Island and we are keen to speak with anyone that had been out for the evening in Ventnor and saw what happened.”
