Thanks to Jo for the report from Saturday’s parkrun, in her own words. Ed
Saturday was the first official parkrun at our alternative and undulating course in Puckpool Park, and the weather was much kinder this week thankfully.
The temporary change of location had proved difficult for some of the regular runners and volunteers, so sadly some familiar faces were missing, but we still had a good turn-out of 26 runners, including two first-timers.
Phil ‘Mad Man’ Mannall champion
Our winner this week was IW Road Runner Phil “Mad Man” MANNALL (VM40-44) in his third appearance at parkrun, in a time of 21:09.
Second place went to West Wight Road Runner Gareth KNIGHT (VM50-54) just 22 seconds later; recording a time of 21:31. Dick HUGHES (VM40-44) was third in a time of 22:44 which is also his new personal best!
Second win for Eden
In her fifth consecutive appearance, our female winner today was Eden CRUMPLIN (JW14) of the IW Athletics Club, in a time of 23:43. This was Eden’s second win.
Second place lady was Scarlett FELSTEAD (SW25-29) – another parkrun regular – in a time of 26:39. Sophie EASTAFF (SW25-29) came 3rd in 27:52 in what was her only her second parkrun.
74th parkrun for Paul
We had a “veteran” parkrunner with us at the weekend. Paul FREYNE (VM40-44) was running his 74th parkrun in total, and came in 11th in his first Isle of Wight parkrun.
The highest score in today’s age-graded competition was earned by our second place winner Gareth KNIGHT with a score of 70.26%, who was also only a few seconds off his personal best.
Jay Tuck in points competition
In the men’s points competition Jay TUCK has taken the lead for the first time with 459 points, and is 26 points ahead of second place Glyn JENKINS.
In the ladies’ competition Eden CRUMPLIN remains in first place with a massive 496 points, and a lead of 42 points over second place Shelagh THORNETT.
Personal bests
This week saw five new personal bests, bringing the total since the Medina IW parkrun started to 41.
During these five weeks we have seen 94 runners representing a total of 14 different clubs, running the equivalent of 176 laps and a total distance of 880kms!
The overall male course record holder is still the unregistered winner of our first ever parkrun on 7th May, in a time of 17:41. The overall female course record holder is still Claire KIELY who achieved an impressive 20:56 at the same event.
Move of course during IW Festival
The course remains at Puckpool next week and throughout June, whilst the IW Festival takes place, and we look forward to seeing you all again next week.
