It’s with great sadness that we heard that Melanie Swan was to resign her position and step down from the IW Council as candidate for Mount Joy, Newport.
From what we’ve seen, Melanie is a person who has taken her role as a county councillor to heart – tackling the issues that are of serious concern to constituents and continuing asking questions on those people’s behalf, when the majority of other councillors had stopped asking questions.
She asked the council questions that perhaps those making policy didn’t want to have asked.
We hope that the few councillors left, that do question about what is important to the general Islanders, will continue their sometimes difficult tasks.
We know that Melanie isn’t the sort of person who’s going to hang up her boots quite yet. We understand that she’ll be sinking her teeth into other projects in the future and wish her the best of luck.
