Thanks to Gemma for sharing news Michael’s visit to the Isle of Wight. Ed
Michael Mates, the Conservative candidate for the role of Police and Crime Commissioner for Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, will be speaking to Sixth Formers at Christ the King College on the morning of Friday, 28th September.
Mr Mates will be addressing the students about a range of topics, including his vision and strategies for reducing crime, protecting the vulnerable and making our streets, both on the Island and across Hampshire, safer places in which to live.
Opportunity to question candidate
Elections are being held in November for the new role of Police and Crime Commissioner and this is
an excellent opportunity for the young people to be made aware of the responsibilities and potential impact on their lives of such a role.
Students will have the opportunity to question Mr Mates, whose visit to the College is part of the College’s Sixth Form Speakers’ Programme.
Speaking today, Michael Mates says: “I am particularly keen to have a real dialogue with students
throughout Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. It is important that as the next generation of citizens they understand the importance of engaging with public policy formation, and in no area is that more important than in setting policing and law enforcement priorities.
“I am delighted to be one of the first speakers in Christ the King’s Sixth Form Programme and look forward to meeting the students.”
