Mies Makes It To The Google Doodle

We’re loving the Google Doodle for today which, celebrating the life of Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, has integrated the Illinois Institute of Technology into the Google logo.

Mie Google Doodle:The German architect would have been 126 years old today had he not died 43 years ago. He was director of architecture at the avant-garde Bauhaus design school and worked in his formative years alongside the likes of Le Corbusier and Walter Gropius.

A Mecca for Modernist fans
He had no connection to the Isle of Wight, as far as we know, but we have seen work here that is clearly influenced by his design.

One of his most well-known buildings is perhaps the German (Barcelona) Pavilion, built in 1929 for the Barcelona Exposition.

It was rebuilt in 1989 by architect students and has become a Mecca for Mies fans from around the world (including us many times).

Happy Birthday Mies!
