Isle of Wight architecture and conservation awards: Deadline announced

The Island branch of Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) and the Isle of Wight Society are pleased to announce that their next bi-annual competition will be held this coming June at Northwood House in Cowes.

The long-established event for RIBA Architects and the Isle of Wight Society aims to raise public awareness of the excellent designs delivered on the island and this year is encouraging more nominations by dividing the awards into three sections.

The Awards
One award will be given for small build projects under 50sqm, unique renovations and conversions.

The Martin Pearce Green Award for projects that have paid particular attention to sustainability, innovation and green technologies.

Lastly an award for new builds of excellence, covering all sectors.

Conservation Awards
The Isle of Wight Society Conservation Awards, who have just celebrated their 70th year, seeks to raise awareness of the many aspects of excellent conservation, craftsmanship and heritage preservation on the Island and encourages nominations from all areas of heritage work, from
the humble weather vane to impressive manor house restorations.

Who can enter
The RIBA(IW) competition, open to all registered RIBA Architects who have worked on projects on the Island, and the IWS competition, open to property owners, designers and builders as well as Architects, will be judged separately by RIBA IW and the Isle of Wight Society on innovation, outstanding design and sympathetic conservation.

The Chairwoman of RIBA’s Island Branch, Leah Mew, says she is particularly looking forward to
this year’s event and is hoping that the invitation to enter smaller projects will heat up the
competition and bring more design variety to the event.

Nominate a project
If you would like to nominate a project for either the RIBA or IWS awards, or better still if the project fits into more than one category, then head over to the website to place your entry.

Deadline for entries is 8th March 2024.
