As we mentioned on VB last week, tomorrow night sees a meeting take place at the Ventnor Winter Gardens regarding the future of the Military Road.
Members of the public are invited to attend, but will not be able to participate in any of the discussions.
The objectives of the meeting are to:
- To provide a working background of information to the Isle of Wight Association of Local Councils (IWALC) that will form the focus of a debate
- To explore a new engineering solution proposed by Dr Bruce Denness MSc, DIC, PhD, MICE, FGS
- To provide IWALC with a mandate to seek commitment from the Isle of Wight Council to ensure the continuing viability of the Military Road
We understand that there’ll be around 20 delegates from the IWALC, as well as a number of invited business and interest groups such as National Trust, AONB and The Environment Agency.
Varied agenda
The agenda starts with a presentation by Dr Bruce Denness of the geological problem. He’ll be putting forward a practical solution with costs.
Also speaking will be Kevin Smith, Chief Executive of the IW Chamber of Commerce. He’ll be talking about the general impact of closure of the road on business and tourism.
Clive Tilley, the Commercial Director for Wightlink will be putting forward a business case for the coast route and Cllr David Tolfree, from Brighstone Parish Council will be bringing a local perspective. Highlighting the impact of road closure on the community and its lifestyle.
The meeting starts at 6pm and run until around 8.30pm.
