VentnorBlog readers will remember the recent split decision approval for the Mill Bay planning application on Ventnor Seafront.

Mill Bay artists impressionAs we reported at the time, officers had recommended approval of alterations and extensions to the public house, including the formation of a new flat above and the terrace of three town houses, but refusal of the end tower.

Developers for the site have been in touch to tell that, what they’re labelling the ‘final part’ of the proposed development, has been lodged with the council and is available to be viewed in detail at the council’s planning website.

They tell VB that the Conservation Team at IW Council has been heavily involved. Development partner Chris Mortimer, said, “At every stage we have done our best to incorporate advice from all sources, although this is not always consistent and sometimes even seemed to be contradictory. Whilst we accept that it’s not always possible to please everyone, the final piece of the development jigsaw should soon be in place.”

“Inspired by Ventnor’s Art Deco buildings”
Chris went onto say that the new design for the four-storey tower, which would consist of flats and a shop, has been inspired by Ventnor’s Art Deco buildings such as the previous Rex Cinema and Winter Gardens.

The developers says the redevelopment of the Mill Bay site will support several new jobs for local people and that they’re committed to placing the construction contract with an Isle of Wight building firm.

If you wish to comment on the application, you can do so through the council’s planning website before 22 July.
