John Hurt (podcast) at Minghella Film Festival

Ha ha. Do you know what VentnorBlog is called by the inner circle of the ruling Conservative council? Not VentnorBlog, the blog, or even that bl**dy blog as you might expect, but we hear on good authority, VB is simply referred to as ‘The Communists’.

Minghella Film Festival: John Hurt (podcast)Makes you laugh doesn’t it? Anything slightly to the left of Attila the Hun = Communists.

Oh well, what can you do?

Well if some of the lovely Tories weren’t already concerned about our lack of enthusiasm for Capitalism, they’ll be chocking on their dry sherries when they hear what John Hurt has to say when we chatted to him at the recent Minghella Film Festival.

Mr Hurt speaks
What we thought might be a good old chinwag about his life as an actor and his time working with Anthony Minghella, turned out to be a discussion about Capitalism.

He started by reminiscing about his first time on the Island in 1969, when he travelled across the Solent to hear Bob Dylan play at the music festival.

Sitting on the terrace of Quay Arts with the sun beating down on us and discussing Capitalism and the loss of the age of naivety led to a rather interesting conversation.

Our discussion was cut short as we all needed to get to the live reading of Minghella on Beckett, but we hope to continue our discussion with John next time he’s on the Island. Audio Player

This reminds me of a similar police warning in my local (mainland) newspaper many years ago.
The headline (probably written by a bored or rogue sub editor) was:

Tips on how to
handle knockers

Hope this doesn’t offend anyone’s Gran

Aged between 20 and 40, that narrows it down then.
