When we saw the “Moon Walk has been banned” press release from the Council, our minds jumped to an obvious conclusion as to who had insisted that they change it.
We bounced back an email to the IW Council press office to find out the details. Their bizarre response was that they couldn’t reveal who had forced them to change the name of the walk, due to trade mark infringement.
You’re thinking the same right? Eeee Ha, Jah Mohn MF. Single white glove, etc.
Always trying to be thorough, and frankly spurred on by the lack of information from the IW Council press office (something we’re sadly become more accustomed to), we did some digging.
It appears that it’s not actually the King of Pop; MJ, the man in the mirror, or what ever he calls himself these days, but could well be Walk the Walk Worldwide, the breast cancer charity.
They hold a trade mark for The Moonwalk when it’s used in connection with charitable or fund raising events.
They have an event called the Playtex Moonwalk that runs in London and Edinburgh.
Walk the Walk charity has raised £35m so far, with the 2007 Playtex MoonWalk raising almost £5 million to date.
