The Environment Agency have issued an update on their flood alert for the Eastern Yar.
“The water levels in the Eastern Yar are beginning to fall from very high levels earlier in the week. This was following 55mm of rain recorded at Knighton on Wednesday (20/10/21).
“Currently, the river is still very high at Sandown but falling in Alverstone. Field flooding is expected along the Yar Valley. Golf Links Road will be flooded and today (22/10/21) minor impact flooding may continue to affect Moreton Common Road.
“Land around holiday parks in Sandown may be flooded, as water will struggle to drain to the river. Property flooding is not expected. Over the next few days, the weather will be settled and dry.
“In Alverstone, the river is now dropping back to normal levels and will continue to do so this afternoon. In Sandown, the river peaked around midnight (21/10/21) and is now stable and will begin to fall slowly this afternoon.
“During the daytime (22/10/21) it will continue to be bank full at Sandown Road Bridge. We continue to monitor the forecast. Please avoid walking or driving through flood water.”
