Since the start of the Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic there have been over 11,000 positive tests for residents of the Isle of Wight.
As of today (17th Sept) according to the Government’s Covid Dashboard, the cumulative number positive Covid-19 tests for Islanders has reached 11,022 – a rate per 100,000 population of 7,817.02.
Today also saw 40 new positive tests on the Isle of Wight, taking the weekly rolling rate to 327 – a rate per 100,000 population of 231.91.

Ages and peaks
The age groups with the highest number of positive tests over the last month are the 10 to 19 year-olds and then the 20 to 45-year-olds.
Looking over the last 18 months, the Island saw a small peak in cases during May 2020, which levelled off until November 2020.
The highest peak so far was seen when the Delta variant arrived in January 2021. Another peak in Mid-August 2021 has now started to level off.
People tested positive more than once are only counted once.
Covid patients in hospital
The Government’s Covid dashboard also shows that as of 14th September there were 32 patients being treated for Covid-19 at St Mary’s hospital.
The Government dashboard also reports four patients are relying on mechanical ventilation.
The total number of Covid patients admitted to hospital on the Isle of Wight since records began is 837.
Deaths
As of 17th September, the Government Dashboard records 271 deaths within 28 days of a positive test. It also records, as of 3rd September, the cumulative number of deaths with Covid-19 on the death certificate as 299.
