Readers may remember the Nets for Life Campaign we ran back in March on behalf of Nikki Collinson.
Nikki has been in touch to say a huge thank you to readers but also to let us know that she’ll be leaving the Island for Uganda next week to distribute a whopping 2,100 mosquito nets.
Busted through the target
As you might remember, Nikki had set a target of 2,000 nets but thanks to the generosity of Islanders, she’ll actually be distributing 2,100 nets to those in need.
Nikki tells us the nets have been allocated to children within orphanages, primary schools, children’s centres and foster programs across Uganda.
The nets are huge, so one can can easily protect two to three children.
Helping thousands of children
By the end of October literally thousands more children will be sleeping safely under mosquito nets protected from the potentially fatal effects of Malaria.
If you add this figure to the other mosquito nets Nikki has already distributed in Uganda, it’ll bring the total to over 8,000 nets since the launch in 2007.
Nikki has promised to send through photos from Uganda, so look out for updates over the coming weeks.
