In the centre of Newport, there is a fairly new music facility that you might not have heard of before.
Music Craft is a registered Community Interest Company (CIC) which aims to make music, and music education affordable and accessible to all.
A knowledgeable group of teachers
The organisation was founded and is run by a small group of music teachers with a wide range of knowledge and experience.
They still provide their private one-to-one tuition, but now have joined forces to offer group activities to the wider community.
All-age community music hub
In January 2022, the CIC opened an all-age community music hub at 98 High Street, Newport.
Music teachers each have their rooms and there’s extra space which is used for group activities during the Saturday Afternoon Music Club and for regular fundraising events, including live music performances.
What’s available
Two of the larger rooms are available to hire for meetings, rehearsals, regular group sessions etc.
The hub is also registered as an arts awards centre with two advisors, one trained in SEN so has future plans to run various programmes for 5-25 year olds with an interest in music.
Opening times
The hub is open for visitors Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays with a free open house on Saturday evenings from 7pm, for musicians and friends (18+, hoping to start a separate night for teens) to drop in and socialise.
As accessibility is important and the Hub is in an old building with no wheelchair access, Music Craft also have a smaller studio at the Riverside centre. All the teachers have access to this and it has recording facilities.
