Music for a cause: Brass Band performance to boost roof fund at Cowes theatre

A Cowes theatre will come alive to the thrilling sounds of a brass band to boost its fundraising appeal for a new roof.

Abbey Brass – comprising 25 experienced musicians – will perform a wide selection of rousing music at Trinity Theatre on Saturday 8th July.

The concert is free entry but a retiring collection will be taken to help fund much-need repairs to the building’s roof.

Bowman: Looking forward to the auditorium coming alive
Dinah Bowman, secretary of Cowes Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society which owns the theatre, said,

“We are delighted that Abbey Brass are supporting our roof appeal with their first-ever concert at Trinity Theatre.

“I am very much looking forward to the auditorium coming alive to the wonderful sounds of a brass band.”

Croucher: Always looking for different venues to perform in
Band chairman Andy Croucher said,

“Abbey Brass is the Island’s newest brass band, formed in 2021, and we are always looking for different venues to perform in across the Island.

“The band is really looking forward to helping Trinity Theatre’s roof appeal and performing a wide variety of music – there should be something for everyone in our 90-minute programme including pop tunes and popular music from films, musicals and the classical repertoire.”

The concert starts at 7.30pm. The theatre is located off Bath Road near The Parade.

Website and social media
Abbey Brass now has a website plus Twitter, Instagram and Facebook pages to promote its news and events to a wider audience.

Band musical director Phillip Littlemore, who created the Website, said,

“There are about 140,000 people resident on the island, but this can double during the holiday periods. That’s a big audience potentially and so anyone who hears us, or engages with us, we want them to keep in touch. We’ve created a site that provides a brief history plus up-to-date info on what we’re doing and also where we can be seen.

“We’ve also provided mini biographies on everyone in the band, not just a list of names, which all goes towards making us more approachable.”

The band, formed in 2021, now boasts 25 experienced players and has already established itself as a leading ensemble on the island with a substantial diary of engagements for the second half of 2023.
