Ventnor Fringe’s hot ticket: Toby Thompson joins ‘Surviving the Apocalypse’ panel

Last updated:

The Ventnor Fringe Festival is set to stage another thought-provoking event, this time with an interesting alternative twist.

OnTheWight and The Book Bus Presents … How to survive the apocalypse, is a follow-up to last year’s sold-out success, The Secret to Happiness.

A glimpse into the future
Taking place at the Ventnor Arts Club on Sunday 23rd July, from 3pm to 4pm (we’ll all be heading to Binnel Studios afterwards for Sue Paraskeva’s performance), this event promises to be a riveting exploration of humanity’s survival in the face of daunting challenges, from climate change to AI and toxic politics.

The discussion will centre around how we can remember who we are, remember what’s important, and pull together in the face of these challenges.

Introducing Toby Thompson
We’re proud to announce our second panellist for this event: Toby Thompson, a performance poet with a “wonderful gift for language, a deep sensibility and a penetrating sense of perspective” according to renowned educationalist and creativity expert, Sir Ken Robinson.

If you have previously seen Toby Thompson perform, you’ll know that he’s an act well worth seeing in person.

Toby Thompson’s uniquely musical poetry, performed with passion, wit, and charm, has been praised for its ability to peacefully commune with the listener’s deepest innermost self.

A celebration of humanity
The event will not only discuss the metaphorical end of days, but also celebrate humanity and what people are capable of.

With Toby Thompson’s inspiring wordsmithery, those coming along can expect an event that is as enlightening as it is entertaining.

Also on the panel
The panel, which also includes an NHS junior doctor turned comedian, Benji Waterstones, hopes to work out how we might survive the challenges that the future may hold and even build something better from the rubble.

In the face of it all, we might just be okay. After all, humanity is at its best when it pulls together to overcome adversity.

Watch out this week for the announcement of our next panelist, an environmentalist with a very local interest.
