Navigating Wightlink’s temporary relocation: Tips for using Portsmouth International Port

A reminder that if you are travelling on the Wightlink Fishbourne-Portsmouth vehicle ferry this week, that the Portsmouth terminal is closed and all ferry traffic is being directed to Portsmouth International Port.

The diversion continues until Monday 3rd February 2025, to allow the new fenders to be installed at the ferry terminal.

Difficulty finding Wightlink
On Monday night, a reader got in touch with OnTheWight to highlight the difficulty they experienced in finding exactly where to go once they arrived at the International Port.

Not only that, but they also had their car searched by officials before being allowed onto the ferry.

Look out for sign at the entrance
OnTheWight got in touch with Wightlink to find out more. Their response was,

“We are sorry this customer had problems finding their way to our berth during Wightlink’s temporary relocation to Portsmouth International Port during major works at our Gunwharf terminal.

“There is a large yellow sign at the entrance to the port to direct customers towards our ferries and Wightlink staff are on hand to answer questions.

“We sent information about the possibility of vehicle security checks with the booking information to all customers who will travel from PIP this week. This is because customers will be entering a secure area, alongside traffic bound for European destinations.”

Where is Portsmouth International Port?
Portsmouth International Port is found on the entrance to the city, right on the M275 motorway that links Portsmouth with the M27. If you’re travelling south into Portsmouth, take junction 2 on the M275, signposted ‘Cruise and Cross Channel Ferries’, and then take the fourth exit on the roundabout.

If you’re travelling north from the city, stay in the left lane of the M275, following the road signs for ‘Cross Channel Ferries’, and then take the first left at the roundabout.

Use the postcode PO2 8SP for your phone or sat nav.
