Neighbourhood Learning in Ventnor is a project delivered by the Arts Unit in partnership with The Adult and Community Learning Service which brings a series of arts based courses for adults to Ventnor.
A new series of courses are about to start (see full details below), so please come and join in – have fun, meet people and learn new skills. The courses are becoming increasingly popular and places are limited, so you do need to phone to book a place: 817288
Music Technology
How to make music on a computer – develop skills in creating, programming, arranging, sequencing and producing music on computers. The intention is to play the music composed on this course at an event in the Winter Gardens at the end of May.
This course is suitable for beginners and for those with some experience and basic computer skills are required.

Jewellery Making
Four day workshops to learn and develop skills as a silversmith. You can design and produce a complete item of jewellery in each full day session. You can book onto just one session, or more than one. Suitable for beginners as well as those with some experience.

Computers For Beginners
Come and learn how to use a computer in a small and supportive group. Progress from switching a computer on, to using the internet, sending an e-mail and basic word processing.

Introduction To Stained Glass
A beginners guide to the art of stained glass. Develop skills in foil work and basic lead work. Produce 2 items by the end of the course – a sun catcher (foil work) and a small panel (lead work).

Web Design
This structure-focused course builds upon previous skills in using Dreamweaver to create first a personalised webpage and then a multi page site with admin pages for adding/updating content. Learners with more experience are encouraged to develop database php pages and make use of javascript functionality.

Introduction To Photoshop
Learn and develop the basics of Photoshop in a series of structured activities. Develop skills in file management, basic tools, understanding of layers and text and simple manipulation of images.
This course is designed for complete beginners to Photoshop but basic computer skills are required.

Feltmaking for beginners and improvers
The course will cover flat and 3D aspects of felt making and the various fibres and wools that can be used. Learn and develop new techniques and produce various items eg decorative accessories, jewellery etc.

Free Style Drawing – a community art project
Spend 2 sessions developing skills with big marker pens and fine liners to produce a final group design. Then spend 2 sessions using spray paints to transfer your design to an area at Ventnor Esplanade. No experience necessary.

Carnival Costume Workshops
Make carnival costumes for you and/or your child – be amazed with what you can produce with a few simple materials. No experience necessary.
There will be a theme for the costumes to form a whole group entry at Ventnor Carnival on 13th August.
Details to be arranged for workshops to take place during June/July but you can phone now to book on.

+ The Community Cafe at Ventnor Community Projects is now open on Saturdays from 10.30am – 1.30pm for light refreshments.
The Internet Centre is also open at the same time, to check your e-mails, browse the internet, practice new skills etc.
The course fees are the equivalent of £3 per week with a concessionary rate available for those on a means tested benefit. There is also a small materials cost for certain courses. It is easier to pay in full at the first session, but where this is not possible you can pay in instalments or weekly. You will be required to pay the course fee in full whether or not you attend every session.
Support is available to cover childcare costs where appropriate – please ask.
