New Appointments Within Children and Young People

Following the recent appointment of a new Director for Children and Young People (step forward Colin Peak, due to start work on the Island in January), we hear that two other senior roles have just been filled.

With the forthcoming education shakeup, moving from a three tier to two tier structure, the IWC clearly need someone with relevant experience to project manage the reorganisation.

So for those on the appointment board, Janet Newton, who has a wealth of experience in education was the right choice for the newly created Project Director role.

Janet is currently Service Director for ‘Wigan Schools for the Future’, so should know a thing or two about working with local education authorities.

As well working on the restructuring, Janet will also be responsible for the Building Schools for the Future Programme (BSF) and the Primary Capital Programme (PCP).

The other appointment goes to Roger Edwardson, who’ll be taking on the role of Head of Learning and Achievement.

Roger is currently Deputy Director of Learning at North East Lincolnshire Council. He also has a wealth of experience, previously working as Director of Education and Libraries at Coventry City Council as well as many high-level roles in education at Newcastle City Council.

Isle of Wight Council Chief Executive Steve Beynon said “Both these roles have vital parts to play in the council’s vision to improve educational standards on the Isle of Wight.

“The selection panel was very impressed by both Janet and Roger respectively who demonstrated a clear passion for the work they do. Both are looking forward to using their knowledge and skill to help improve outcomes for children and young people on the Island and build on our already acknowledged successes.”

Both Janet and Roger will be joining the IWC in January 2010.
