Thanks to Gretel for this update from Healthwatch IW. Ed
Healthwatch Isle of Wight, the Island’s new consumer champion for health and care services, is excited to announce the appointment of two Non-Executive Directors to its Board.
Dominic Crouch will take on the role of Chair and also cover Improvement and Quality and Chris Orchin will oversee Governance and Compliance. They will join current Executive Directors Janet Parry, Sara Mousley and Tony Walker to ensure Healthwatch makes a difference for local people.
Dominic Crouch
Dominic has a career history spanning 30 years in the Metropolitan Police Service at New Scotland Yard in London, culminating in the position of Superintendent.
He is a Qualified Rugby Football Union Coach, for 7-14 year olds and a Licensed Motor Instructor, instructing 17+ year olds. He also ran a local sailing cadet centre for 7-16 year olds, assisting in an annual sailing event for over 100 disabled people.
“I am looking forward to the challenge that lies ahead, working alongside providers and commissioners of health and social care on the Island, improving services for local people.”
Chris Orchin
Chris has a background in Health Service Management on the Isle of Wight from 1975 to 1993 in the areas of mental health, learning disability and community-based services.
Subsequently, he has worked in Business Management, was Chair of the Isle of Wight Local Involvement Network (LINk) from 2011 – 2013 and is a keen digital photographer.
“I am delighted at being appointed a Non-Executive Director of Healthwatch Isle of Wight. I hope that the knowledge gained of health and social care issues as the former Chair of the Island LINk will be assistance in helping Healthwatch develop its service to the community.”
Healthwatch Isle of Wight
Healthwatch Isle of Wight has got off to a fantastic start, with the first three months seeing us engage with 20 different groups from across the Island, receive feedback from over 70 members of the public and signpost many of those to health and care support services across the island to meet their needs.
One example of our success to date is that within two days of contacting Healthwatch Isle of Wight with concerns over a relative who was in hospital, a meeting was set up with a matron at St Mary’s hospital.
Free drop-in event
We will be launching ‘Bringing it Together’ – looking at mental health support for children and young people, at a free drop-in event on 4th July at the Foundation Bakery, Pyle Street, Newport from 3:30pm – 5:30pm.
