Over the past year Shalfleet Hall has undergone a major renovation. With funding from the West Wight Landscape Partnership and Isle of Wight Economic Partnership the building has been reborn as Shalfleet Community Hall.
In fact, a legacy from church stalwarts the late Claire and Jim Price accounted for half of the repair costs. Shalfleet Hall first appeared on the map of 1774, when it was probably a barn. Its origin may well be much earlier.
Blessing by Canon Michael Weaver
In 1935, Edith Kindersley funded the conversion of the building to become the Church Room. John Seely, later to become the 2nd Lord Mottistone, was the architect chosen. Actually, he restored Mottistone Manor for his father.
For the official re-opening of the hall the Rev. David Bevington welcomed guests before Canon Michael Weaver, Area Dean of West Wight undertook the Blessing and Dedication of the building.
David Langford, Deputy Lieutenant of the Isle of Wight was given the honour of cutting the ribbon. He has many fond memories of Shalfleet Church having climbed the church tower when a choir boy as well as being a chorister there.
