Thursday saw the latest local council by-election take place in Ventnor, with voters in Ventnor East and Bonchurch heading to the polls.
As with most local elections, turnout was low, at just 22.8 per cent (166 votes out of a possible 727).
There were two candidates vying for the seat on Ventnor Town Council (VTC), James Toogood (a previous long-serving member of VTC) and Adrian Whittaker of the Vectis Party (a local councillor in Lake and Shanklin).
Former councillor returns to VTC
James Toogood, the former Ventnor West councillor, received 121 votes and has been elected as VTC councillor for Ventnor East and Bonchurch.
Councillor Toogood told News OnTheWight,
“I am thrilled to have won and am really looking forward to working with Brian Lucas, the outgoing councillor, and representing people in the ward.
“I also met lots of lovely people at the polling station and had good conversations with them.”
Adrian Whittaker received 44 votes.
One vote was rejected (for being unmarked or wholly void for uncertainty).
