New eco-housing plans for Cowes: Wildlife enhancements at the heart of plans

A ‘sustainable, sensitive and small-scale development’ has been proposed for the outskirts of Cowes.

In plans put forward to the Isle of Wight council, Three Gates Ltd is asking for permission to build two two-bed and four three-bed houses.

Three Gates Road
The development would sit on Three Gates Road, behind the Esplanade Garage and across from Liz Earle and the Prospect Road Business Park.

The site has permission to be used for storage and distribution facilities with offices, although it has not been built on.

In planning documents, the applicants say the new plans proposed are felt to be better suited for the site.

Ecology and wildlife enhancements
Ecology and wildlife enhancements are proposed in the development including a bat brick installed in each house; bird boxes in trees; small openings in fences to help animals move across the site; and fruit trees planted to feed birds and mammals.

A new hedge would be planted along the front of the houses on Three Gates Road and grown to 2m in height.

The public consultation runs until 9th June.
