New ferry-related campaign group gathering pace on Facebook

A new campaign group on Facebook is gathering support from across the Isle of Wight.

The Group, which has been running since mid-July, is calling itself ‘Are Wightlink the Right Link?’.

It currently has over 2,000 members – that’s more than the ‘Better Ferry Campaign‘ which has been running on Facebook for over seven months.

Canvassing for views
The introductory text for the group reads,

Are we being Ripped off by Wightlink Ferries?
Is their flexible pricing policy fair?
Are they sympathetic to our views?
Are you happy with them?
We want to hear your views…

The group appears to be predominantly pro-Red Funnel and anti-Wightlink, with customer service, fares and crossing availability being the top issues discussed.

Ferry providers scrutinised by the council
Earlier in the year, after hearing ‘evidence’ from the cross-Solent ferry providers, the Isle of Wight council Scrutiny Committee made a series of recommendations to the full council.

It was, however, recognised by the committee that the council had no control over the private ferry companies.

I have read about Islanders having problems booking on some Wightlink ferries because the use of Mulitilink tickets is not allowed. This had not affected me until now! I attempted to book a ferry on return from France, early afternoon on 5 January, but the whole day of car sailings was not available (from Portsmouth) the entire day for Multikink holders! I sent Wightlink a complaint email… Read more »
