Do you have what it takes to give foster children a chance? This in from the council. Ed
Isle of Wight Council is launching a new scheme aimed at giving foster children with specialist needs the best opportunities for a stable family life on the Island.
The Specialist Foster Scheme is a project that will provide prospective carers with advanced training, skills and support to care for children who are experiencing emotional and behavioural challenges.
These specialist foster carers would be part of a team of professionals that will include other skilled workers such as social workers, mental health staff and education specialists.

Expressions of interest are being encouraged by the council from prospective and existing carers, to join the Specialist Foster Scheme Pilot.
Under the scheme, it is envisaged that the child or young person will be carefully matched to a family, and remain with that family for up to 18 months and be the only child in the home. A carer will be expected to be at home and available both day and night. Expectations on the carers will be high, but people who become part of the scheme will be given a weekly allowance of £500 per week.
Anyone who wishes to express an interest in being part of this innovative and exciting pilot scheme should contact Dave Crewe at the Isle of Wight Council Fostering and Adoption Team on (01983) 566011 for more details.
