An application for a proposed glamping site with five units of holiday accommodation at Newbarn Farm, in Calbourne has received support from the local Parish Council.
Plans explain the treehouse units will vary in size (accommodating two and three bedrooms) and will follow “a striking and exciting architectural theme which us uses simple, elegant and crisp materials”.
Low impact on amenity due to tree loss
Pre-application advice from the Council stated the development “should be of a high-quality design and protect current visual amenity. It appears that the existing site is well screened from the highway.”
An Arboricultural Impact Assessment (AIA) followed, which concluded that “the proposal will have a low impact on amenity due to tree loss”.
Low level bat activity was identified in the area but there are plans to mitigate for this with the inclusion of bat boxes.
Support from Parish Council
Speaking on behalf of the Parish Council, the clerk explains,
“The Council discussed this application and had no objection to it subject to any new planting had to take place prior to the units being occupied.
“The units have to comply with the Dark Skies Policy. The main concern raised was occupation of the units during a shoot.”
Road speed reduction
The Clerk went on to explain that although the Council considers there will be negligible increase of traffic, they do draw to the planners’ attention that the Council recommends that this stretch of road speed limit is reduced to 40mph.
