Thanks to Richard for letting us know about this new service. During a time when so much is being cut, it’s great to see the opportunity of something new being created. Ed
Shanklin Voluntary Youth and Community Centre, is launching a new leisure and recreation club later this week, aimed at adults, aged 40+, who would like to take part in social activities and use the range of facilities available in the Centre.
Volunteers at the Centre have been asked to open during the week to enable the community to access the Gym, use some of the IT facilities in the Centre, contact Green Town volunteers, or take part in social activities which will vary throughout the year.

SVYCC Co-leader Bridget Biddlecombe said “We are aware of a need for this type of resource and are opening to see if there is a demand for this type of activity, which will very much be driven by those that attend, and enable people to use the range of facilities the centre has to offer.”
Co-leader Richard Priest added, “For some time we have focussed on ensuring the best facilities are available for local young people, and this initiative is very much aimed at the wider community and we will see how it develops – hoping to link with other local community facilities and plan activities like healthy walks and social talks.”
Bridget concluded, “It has been a very busy Autumn for the Centre, and anyone interested is more than welcome to pop in for a cuppa and a chat, and see how they would like to become involved in the group, provide activities for group members to take part in, or organise a community event for others.”
