New pay and display bays may replace some limited waiting spots in Newport

Isle of Wight Council has launched a new parking consultation over a proposal that some of the ‘limited waiting’ bays in Union Street in Newport are changed to ‘Pay & Display’ bays.

The rationale behind the proposal is that the change will improve the limited availability of parking space in Newport town centre and be consistent with other parking restrictions in the area.

The aim of the increased turnover in the bays is to improve footfall in the area to help local businesses, as well as Island’s residents and visitors.

The consultation can be found on the Council’s Traffic Regulation Order page and the closing date is 1st November 2024.
