Following previous delays in renovations at the leisure centre, this in from the council. In their own words. Ed
The opening of the newly refurbished swimming pool and modern ToneZone gym at The Heights Leisure Centre in October will now take place on 15 October.
This is a fortnight later than planned following the inclement weather at the start of the summer.
Wet weather cause of delay
John Metcalfe, Isle of Wight Council deputy director of economy and environment said “Whilst we have been enjoying recent warm weather, unfortunately the wet weather in June and July caused delays to the building works as the builders had to wait for the new roof over the swimming pool to dry in order to complete the final works to it.
“We had feared that the delay would be a number of weeks but are pleased with the efforts of the builders to limit the delay to a only couple of weeks. It is always difficult with a refurbishment project to control all of the elements that can impact on planned works.
“I am sorry that our users will not be able to use the facilities as soon as planned but am sure that they will feel the wait has been worth it when the pool and the new state of the art gym equipment are unveiled in October.”
The current Tone Zone gym at The Heights remains open as does the health suite and activity studio which accommodates an extensive programme of activities and classes. Swimming is available at Medina Leisure Centre where customers can use their One Card.
