Members from the Royal British Legion today unveiled a brand new Sainsbury’s Local convenience store in Ryde on the Isle of Wight (Thursday 23 October).
The new Sainsbury’s convenience store is located at 23-23A Union Street, in central Ryde. It occupies the former Sweet Chariot shop and neighbouring Stanley’s Bar which have been combined to create a shop large enough for the first Sainsbury’s Local convenience store on Union Street.
20 new part time and full time jobs
The launch of the store has brought 20 new part time and full time jobs to the area and all colleague positions have been filled by people from the local area.
The store will offer a wide range of products including fresh fruit and vegetables and baked goods and will be open daily from 7am until 11pm. Deliveries to the store will come in via Union Road.
Maria Bird, store manager, said she is looking forward to welcoming shoppers to the new store:
“We are really excited to be opening another Local on the Isle of Wight and we can’t wait to play an active part in – and serve – the local community.
“From our experience, our Local’s prove extremely popular with shoppers who pop in to ‘top up’ their weekly shop and tend to attract more shoppers to nearby retailers. We’re looking forward to the buzz this new store will bring to the area.”
As standard, store colleagues will be trained to operate a ‘Think 25’ policy to ensure alcohol is not sold to anyone under 18.
This is the first Sainsbury’s in Ryde. On the Island there are two other Local stores in Freshwater and Sandown plus superstores in Newport and West Cowes.
