New venue announced for 29th Annual Hedgelaying Competition

The 29th Annual Hedgelaying Competition will take place on 28th February 2026 at a new venue on the Isle of Wight.

The event will run from 10am until 4pm at Atherfield Farm, with Mrs Annie Henton and Mr and Mrs R Chapman kindly granting permission to use the site.

Organisers invite visitors to wear wellington boots, wrap up warm and come along to watch the traditional countryside skill in action.

Free parking and entry
The competition offers free parking and free entry for both competitors and spectators.

All members of the public are welcome to attend the event.

Refreshments and attractions
The famous tea tent will serve cake, hot food and drinks throughout the day.

Ralph Griffin will display a collection of billhooks and tools used in hedgelaying.

Vectis Vintage Tractors and Engines Club will provide a running display of static engines and vintage vehicles.

Weather considerations
Organisers warn that the farmland is likely to be wet underfoot.

They ask visitors to drive sensibly according to the conditions and bring suitable footwear and clothing appropriate for the weather.
