After their successful debut at Bestival this year, the Newchurch Male Voice Choir are gaining a cracking reputation for themselves.
So much so that on October 10th they will be joined by the renowned Gloucestershire Police Male Voice Choir and others to host an evening of musical entertainment.
It all takes place at St Saviours on the Cliff, Queens Road, Shanklin and won’t cost you a penny to get in (There will be a retiring collection supporting Island charities).
Choir member Barry Leahy tells us that the much travelled Gloucester Police Male Voice Choir will be teaming up with the Newchurch Male Voice Choir and guest soloists Lucy Stevens Soprano, Donna Brihmani Oboist and Cate Clark accompanist to soloists.
The Gloucester Police choir, formed in 1970, have 60 singers and are led by Director of Music George Taylor, ALCM and their accompanist Diane Martin, ALCM.
They have performed at the Royal Festival Hall, Birmingham Symphony Hall and Colston Hall Bristol and also Bristol, Gloucester, Llandaff, Worcester, York Minster and Salisbury cathedrals. Their most recent tours have been to California, Germany and Jersey.
The combined Choirs will perform Puccini’s Nessun Dorma and Cy Coleman’s Rhythm of Life.
Gilbert&Sullivans’ With Cat-like Tread; Lloyd-Webber’s The Music of the Night and a Jesus Christ Superstar selection; The Rose and Kalinka (Russian folk song) are among the songs the Police choir will be singing.
Newchurch will be singing some of their popular songs; Unchained Melody, Yellow Bird, I Believe and Nice ‘n Easy medley of Perry Como songs.
