Firefighters on the Isle of Wight appeared so keen to reach their call-out this morning, the driver of the vehicle pictured above, ended up getting the vehicle stuck in the exit.
OnTheWight reader, Dale Whitehall, got in touch with this photo of the vehicle which he told us had to be abandoned and another used for the call-out.
It’s not clear how the accident happened, whether it was just a case of the shutter failing, but we’ve posed a series of questions to the council press office.
A spokesperson for the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service, said:
“Whilst turning out to an incident, which resulted in a false alarm, firefighters were delayed from exiting their appliance bay due to vehicles queuing in the box junction – which is supposed to be kept clear at all times.
“During this time the door started to automatically close before the fire appliance had cleared the building. There was no damage to the appliance or its equipment although one panel of the door required replacement. The fire and rescue service is working with the door maintenance company – which visited the site yesterday – to find out why the doors started to close prematurely.
“We would like to take this opportunity to remind motorists to observe the yellow cross hatched road markings and keep the road outside Newport Fire Station (and all other stations) clear as access is required at all times.”
