Newport IW v Cadbury Heath – FA Vase 2nd Round Proper | St Georges Park, 3pm Kick Off
It’s a huge weekend of football at St Georges Park on Saturday as Newport IW welcome Bristol based Cadbury Heath Football Club in the 2nd Round Proper of the FA Vase.
Toolstation League Table
Cadbury Heath are currently in the Western League Premier Division having won the First Division last season and are sitting pretty at the top of the table (see diagram). One particular player to watch will be their leading goalscorer Matthew Huxley, who is sixth in the goalscoring charts with 14 goals this season in 17 games.
On the other hand, Newport IW will fancy their chances playing at home and manager Steve Brougham should have a strong squad to choose from. Also, he has a team currently on a 5 match winning streak in all competitions.
FA Vase
Now in it’s 39th year, the FA Vase is a sought after trophy among clubs in the lower leagues as teams reaching the final get to play at Wembley. To give you some scale to the competition, 36,232 fans saw Truro City beat local side AFC Totton 3-1 after being a goal down back in 2007.
Progression in this competition is also desirable as the FA prize money reaches £15,000 for the winners. A win for Newport IW in this weekend’s match would see the winners bank £700 and progress in the Third Round Proper where the FA prize money more than doubles for the last 32 teams.
As usual, the Newport IW FC website will feature LIVE score coverage of the match this Saturday, with a 3pm kick off.
