Newport IW Football Club manager Steve Brougham has pulled off one of the biggest signings in Newport’s recent history by bringing Havant & Waterlooville star Scott Jones to St George’s Park for the 2014/15 season.
The pacy forward has played the last few seasons for The Hawks under former Portsmouth, Crystal Palace and Man City striker Lee Bradbury, who is their current manager. Havant & Waterlooville FC play in the Conference South, which is three leagues above the Wessex Premier (Newport IW’s league) and only two below the English Sky Bet Football League Two.
Completing the jigsaw
Scott was also a member of the Isle of Wight team which won gold in the Island Games tournament back in 2011; he managed to score goals against Ynys Môn and Gibraltar.
With a lot of persuasion, negotiations and hard work behind the scenes, Brougham has managed to assure Scott that St George’s Park is the place to be this season as the Islanders push hard to improve on last season’s forth place in the Wessex League Premier Division.
Manager Steve Brougham said:
“I’m delighted to be able to bring Scott to the club this season. He can play anywhere across the front line and gives us further options; he completes the jigsaw which we’ve been trying hard to put together.”
