Following the announcement of the General Election taking place on 6th May, Parish Council elections for Newport have just been postponed.
The reason for this, is that local elections cannot be held on the same day as the general elections, so they’ve been postponed until the 27th May.
There are seven wards in Newport which will all be subject to elections; Carisbrooke, Newport Central, Newport East, Newport South, Newport North, Newport West and Parkhurst.
Due to the postponement, the cut off date for councillor nominations has been moved from 8th April to 29th April, assuming the wards are contested.
If you think you’d like to become a parish councillor, get in touch with the Newport Parish Clerk on (01983) 297367 or email [email protected].
