No folks we haven’t got our dates mixed up – we realise it’s the 11th May and not the 1st of April.
Whilst at the Ventnor Town Council meeting tonight it was revealed that the newly painted paddling pool down on the Ventnor Eastern Esplanade continues to cause a stir.
Yes, we all know about the furore over the wall which was built next to the paddling pool by IWC without any consultation with the Ventnor Town Council (more to come on that later and the proposal agreed to take the IWC to the Local Government Ombudsman), but this matter had the councillors and members of the public (pretty low turnout btw) guffawing for a change.
Godshill relocated
What we heard from Councillors Elvers and Mew had us wondering whether the Isle of Wight Council had outsourced the painting job to non-Islanders.
What’s clear is that whoever did do the painting, certainly doesn’t seem to know where their employer (IW council) is based.
According to the new paint job, Godshill has been moved to Newport. We understand that the error was first noticed on Thursday and surprisingly come Monday night, Godshill still remains further north than its residents would like.
Where’s Newport?
Mind you, with Newport not showing up anywhere on the famous miniature Island, perhaps the painters are more than aware of where their employers are based and decided to wipe them off the map!
We’re sure that a perfectly adequate excuse will be forthcoming from the IWC in due course.
For those not sure of where Godshill and Newport should be located on the map, here’s a little pointer.
Update: IWC Response
Isle of Wight Radio, who are covering the story today, received this response from Isle of Wight Council Principal Coastal Engineer Peter Marsden, who said “Works on the Eastern Esplanade included repainting the paddling pool area, and the council contracted an Island based engineering firm to carry out the project.
“Unfortunately, it appears one location on the map has not been painted as accurately as it should have been.
“As soon as the error was noticed, we contacted the company to request that the mistake was rectified as soon as possible and at no cost to the council, which they have agreed to do.”
